About

My name is Maciej. I am a self-taught photographer based in the UK.

Alongside my full-time work, photography gives me a way to document life, travel and the world around me. Carrying a camera encourages me to slow down, observe and pay attention to things I might otherwise pass by.

Before photography became an important part of my life, I followed a fairly unconventional path. I have worked in a food factory, mixed car paint, worked in a department store and on building sites, served as a police officer, appeared as a film and television extra, and eventually found my way into IT.

Moving between such different worlds has shaped the way I see things. It has made me curious about people, places and everyday details, and that curiosity continues to influence the way I photograph.

I don’t think much about photographic genres when I am out with a camera. I photograph what catches my attention along the way - a landscape, a person, an animal, an unexpected encounter or something seemingly ordinary.

I am especially drawn to simple, understated scenes. I like photographs that don’t reveal everything immediately and moments that might easily go unnoticed. Sometimes the smaller observations say more about a place or an experience than the obvious ones.

For me, photographs are personal interpretations rather than objective records. They are shaped by the place, the light, the atmosphere and how I experienced the moment.

I work with both analogue and digital cameras. The equipment matters less to me than having something that allows me to respond naturally to what is happening in front of me.

I also have red-green colour deficiency, the most common form of colour blindness. Certain shades can be difficult for me to distinguish, which has made me particularly conscious of light, contrast, texture, shape and composition.

Ultimately, photography is my way of being curious about the world and keeping a record of the people, places and small moments I encounter along the way.
